WALKING & TREKKING

There are hundreds of walking trails all over this area from the easiest morning strolls, to some serious trekking challenges. The trails are all well marked and an "average time" is also sign posted. The road that leads up GMEINECK from behind the "Rectory" is a favourite of the locals.

A lot of the trails eventually lead to an "Almh├╝tte", a small wooden mountain hut where cool drinks and local specialities can be had from some interesting folk. Wandering about the tops of mountains is just a normal past time for the local people and a great way to keep healthy. Early morning five hour treks are frowned upon as too easy. For the average person a good set of boots and a knapsack with plenty of liquids will usually suffice, although for the more serious trekker, good mountaineering equipment and local knowledge are a necessity. In summer a beautiful sunny day can build into thunder storms throughout the afternoon, giving way to torrential rain for an hour or two.
